LVL A Code (LVL_A) E

Packing shall be accomplished to meet the performance test requirements of astm-d4169, distribution cycle 18, assurance level 1.

LVL B Code (LVL_B) Q

Packing shall be accomplished in accordance with table c.Ii for the packing level specified. closure, sealing and reinforcement shall be in accordance with the appropriate shipping container specification.

Method of Preservation (MOP) HM

Packaging and marking for hazardous materials shall comply with applicable requirements for performance oriented packaging contained in the international air transport association (iata) dangerous goods regulations or the international maritime dangerous goods code (imdg) and the code of federal regulations (cfr) title 29, title 40 and title 49. all performance test requirements shall be supported by certificates and reports attesting to the date and the results obtained from performance oriented packaging testing. the contractor, if not a self-certifier, shall be responsible for assuring that third party sources providing performance testing services are, in fact, registered with the department of transporation. the contractor's signed certification that the packaged configuration meets iata or imdg requirements shall be incorporated on the dd form 250, material inspection and receiving report, and other related acceptance documents if the dd form 250 is not used. all certificates and reports shall be available for inspection by authorized government representatives for a period of three years.

  Packaging Codes

OPI: Optional Procedure Indicator Code. A one position alpha code that indicates the allowable deviations from the prescribed requirements.

SPI No.: Special packaging instructions number.

LVL A/B/C: Indicates the type of shipping container required for level A, B, or C maximum packing protection.

SPC Mkg: A two position code that identifies the special markings applied to the container, which is part of the total pack to protect the contained item during preservation, packing, storage, transit and removal from the pack.

MOP: Method of Preservation. Preventive measures to protect from deterioration resulting from exposure to atmospheric conditions during storage and shipment.

CUSH: Resilient material or devices used to absorb and dissipate energy from shock and vibration to adequately protect the contents and packaging components from physical damage during handling, shipment, and storage.

PRES MAT: Preservation Material. Identifies the material used to prevent or inhibit corrosion or deterioration of an item.

THK: Thickness of cushioning. Minimum thickness of material used to cushion the item.

TOS: Type of Storage. Type of storage space and environment conditions to be maintained for an item during storage and shipment.
