It is used for producing a masking coating in order to shield certain surfaces from receiving finish coatings during spraying, electroplating, and the like, or as a preservative and protective coating for items during shipment and/or storage. It is applied by various methods such as brushing, dipping, or spraying to form a tough, flexible film or cocoon, which is removed by peeling.
