Ringer
An electrically operated motor-generator which is a primary source of telephone ringing current, the output of which is used in telephone central offices and switchboards to operate telephone ringers and switchboard signals. It may also generate distinctive tone currents and may include an interrupter for coding the ringing and tone currents. See also generator, ringing, static.
