Self-contained, man portable, refined variant satellite receiver desinged to receive signals transmitted by satellites of the user segment withing the dod global positioning system. It recieves a space-based radio signal which is converted to geodetic quality data (+/- 5 mm acccuracy) for determining three dimensional (longitutde, latitude, altitude) position location on the surface of the earth. This capability will enable artillery survey sections to rapidly establish survey control points (in all weather conditions) for the purpose of facilitating the extension of a common grid within the marine expeditionary force field of operation as well as provide precise geographical location of firing units, observers and targets
A fixed number of components and/or items, not all having the same basic name, of a ground or airborne navigation set that acquires and tracks signals from a constellation of orbital satellites to obtain time and three-dimensional position and velocity directly or in conjunction with sub systems of the host vehicle. Excludes stand alone navigation systems, such as inertial navigation set.
Classification: Radio navigational aid apparatus parts (except radar)
