A mechanical device designed to prepare diesel or lighter fuel oils for combustion by the vaporization process in the combustion chambers of ranges, ovens, or furnaces, i. E., oil entering a heated pot, the heat of which causes the oil to vaporize, rise and mix with sufficient air (supplied by a small fan or by natural draft) to cause combustion in the combustion chamber above the burner pot. The flow of oil and air is regulated by controls on the outside of fan equipped burners, while the oil flow is regulated by a control on the outside of natural draft burners with the draft (air) regulated by a smoke pipe damper.
Classification: Parts of furnace burners for liquid fuel, for pulverized solid fuel or for gas; mechanical stokers, mech grates, mech ash discharge & similar applianc
