A clay found in nature having the property of swelling immensely upon wetting. Usually used to increase plasticity of pottery clays, to act as a suspension agent in pottery glazes, and to act as a bonding agent in graphite crucibles, molding sands, abrasive wheels, and in electrical and chemical porcelains.
